I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) (www.imsg.com) may have a need for talented individuals with experience in collecting marine and coastal field information for the Deep Water Horizon Oil Spill response. Successful candidates will work with the NOAA Office of Response and Restoration (www.response.restoration.gov) Shoreline Clean Up and Assessments Teams (SCAT) and Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) Teams. SCAT is used to help on-scene responders establish priorities for shoreline protection and cleanup. Field teams systematically document information on shoreline oiling by conducting comprehensive surveys and collecting information related to the types and characteristics of oil stranded on the shoreline, the geomorphologic features of the shoreline, and the environmental resources at risk, either from existing information sources or from field evaluations. The NRDA work would support preliminary data collection and sampling primarily to preserve information and assist in determining if an injury to coastal and marine resources occurred and if the injury was due to the DHW incident.
Duties:
Duties may include but are not limited any combination of the following:
• Conducting literature reviews and evaluating resources at risk in coastal areas where oiling is likely to occur
• Collecting water and oil samples in oiled habitat according to standard operating procedures
• Collecting field data on the type, extent, and characteristics of stranded oil and the impacted habitat and resources
• Conducting aerial assessments of shoreline oiling
• Organizing and reporting field information using standard processes
• ANYTHING SPECIFIC RELATED TO TRUST RESOURCES
Qualifications:
• BS in marine science, coastal management, environmental science or other related field.
• Experience collecting field information in coastal environments required
• Experience working from small vessels desired
• Experience in any of the following areas highly desirable:
1. Performing Shoreline Clean Up and Assessment
2. Assessing coastal and marine habitat impacts
3. Conducting natural resource damage assessments pre assessments
4. Assessing Resources at Risk in coastal environments
• Experience working as part of field team highly desirable
